Day

Assignments

*     Monday: Objects in Motion: Newton’s the Man!

  • After reading pp. 98-113 in the textbook, see what AllKnowledge has to say about Newton’s Laws.
    • What do they leave out that the book includes? Be prepared to discuss this in class
  • Define Inertia, Gravity, Force, and Newton’s Laws One and Two in simplest terms in your vocabulary notebook. Be sure to review our last section for terms used this section!
  • Look over the group project handout and meet with your group

*     Tuesday: How does gravity affect an object in motion?

  • Paper Airplane Experiment! In your groups, make 3 planes – one of tissue paper, one of copy paper, one of construction paper
    • Be sure to weigh each plane. Which plane has the most mass?
  • Make predictions before you fly each plane – how far will they fly? What does all of this have to do with gravity? Will it matter which plane weighs the most?
  • Record your data with your groups. You will be using this data to make a graph in Excel, which will be in your PowerPoint presentation on Friday.
  • Be sure to leave enough time to enter your data into Excel! You will need about 10 minutes. Please use this data template.

*     Wednesday: What affect does inertia have on an object in motion?

*     Thursday: How does force affect things in motion?

*     Friday: PowerPoint Presentations and Review Quiz

  • Today is presentation day! Remember:
    • No more than 3-4 slides
    • Remain within PowerPoint Guidelines
    • Limit to 5 minutes
  • Your Review Quiz is up! Our unit will conclude next week with the cumulative test. The quiz print out to take home is in your Friday folder.

Lessons for the month of December will focus on

Motion of an Object vs. Forces on an Object

You will be divided into groups of 5 and will work on your graphs during the designated time before specials each day. You data will be entered into Excel and you will be making graphs of your data. If you have a problem with your graphs, please come see me, but we should all have excellent graphs, since we all had wonderful ones earlier this year!

These will be due on Friday, December 9th, 2005!

Our lessons do not go through the entire month because Winter Break begins on the 16th.

We come back on January 2nd!

You will find links to sites and resources on our links page – remember! This page changes every month according to what we are studying! You can find last month’s links in the archive as soon as a new topic goes up!

Don’t forget about the Extra Credit page, if you’d like to help your grade out a bit! If you come up with another project you’d like to do instead, please come see me.

Remember, there can be a Homework Quiz

any day. This is where I will give you a sheet

containing questions from the previous day’s homework. You may use your notebook and your homework from the night before, but you may not use your book! These can be given on any day, so remember to do your homework!
