The conquistadors were a group of military officers from Europe. Some came from Spain but some were from Portugal.
Millions were killed and million more were made into slaves.
During the 16th century they took over almost all of Latin America. The explorer Christopher Columbus had just disc covered the Americas. And there were loads of natural resources there, including precious metals like gold and silver. Most conquistadors came from humble back grounds.
He worked to do his paper. By grabbing as much loot as they could. They made them selves rich and powerful. They also did if for the glory of their home countries. Their missions were sponsored by king and queens, who were also hungry for money and power. Back then, the major European countries were competing to be the biggest, richest empire. After Columbus’s voyage, England, Spain, Portugal, the weather lands, and other set up American colonies as quickly as they could. The idea was that who ever got the most land and the most loot could dominate
